Quality assurance in higher education Opinion of directors of Mechanical Engineering programs

The permanent improvement of quality goes far beyond what a law can establish. Based on this argument, the program directors belonging to REDIMEC, shared their perceptions about the quality system established by the Ministry of Education.

In two workshops held in Bogotá and Pereira, in which a participatory methodology was used, developed by the Quality Commission of the Network of Mechanical Engineering Programs (REDIMEC) and supported by the CIFI of the Central University, the directors established the convenience of a system that monitors the quality processes carried out in the universities.

Likewise, they concluded that this process has generated benefits in the different programs, but they identified some elements that should be improved in the processes carried out by the National Intersectoral Commission for the Quality Assurance of Higher Education (CONACES) for the qualified registry and the National Accreditation Council, CNA, to obtain the High Quality Accreditation.

The analysis took into account the guidelines of the Ministry, which bases its quality assurance policy on two main functions, promotion activities and evaluation processes, and treated separately the processes given within the universities and external factors that affect the evaluation.
